Losing Is A Good Thing!

Or not..maybe I'm just psyching myself out. I truly enjoy being in the Toastmasters club, but there have been times that I just want to avoid it. It's been almost a month since our Area contest for Table Topics took place, and well, I lost.... Sure, I gained the experience, but I thought I did really well on my impromptu speech. Bobby and our friends were there to cheer me on and several people came to me after the speech and told me that I did well and that the speech was great. Unfortunately, it was not great enough... Out of three contestants, I got to go first and went home without a trophy. Honestly, I was so crushed that I threw myself a pity party for a week. I was there to represent the Deerwood Club, and I dreaded going to the next club meeting. Hesitantly, I went ahead and took advantage of my stage time anyway and signed up to be one of the speaker's evaluators. I had to give an impromptu evaluation speech, and the "Best Evaluator" wins a ribbon. Surprisingly, I won a ribbon that day. You would think that would have had helped me gain confidence all over again with public speaking, but here I am writing a blog instead of preparing for my speech on Wednesday. I hate writer's block and preparing speeches. I'm no MLK, JFK nor FDR--I stink on speeches. All these negative thoughts and insecurities started to creep up again...so therefore, I took a break from my writer's block. I opened my email and read Jon Gordon's "positive newsletter" to distract myself. The video clip in his email is really powerful, and I was blown away by its message... how fitting to how I feel right now... Okay, losing is a good thing.. failing is a good thing....

Enjoy the video (and wish me luck on my speech!)

Lyndsay's Big Day!

It was a beautiful St. Patrick's weekend for Lyndsay because that Saturday was her big day! She was getting married after only getting engaged on New Years Day :) I never met Anderson before, but I know that he's a very lucky guy to have Lyndsay :) Their wedding took place in Callahan at Lyndsay's home church, and many of Anderson's family and relatives flew all the way from Brazil to be a part of this special day :)

I am very glad that I got to take pictures of Lyndsay getting ready for her wedding and the little details that usually get unnoticed. I had put my camera to rest when her other photographer, Dan Harris, came right before the ceremony, and I am sure that Lyndsay will post some of the pictures in her blog soon--so check it out :)

For now, enjoy the pictures & the mini slideshow that I have created for her bridal prep :)

HAPPY EASTER :)

This is the great time of the year for rebirth (just in case you didn't follow through with your New Year's resolution!) I just want to thank the Lord for giving me such great friends like all of you! Thank you for all of your support with my photography passion and helping me making the business into a reality! I've been doing weddings for 5 years now but mostly only for friends and co-workers. Now, more brides are finding out about me since the launch of my website last fall. Most of you tell me to go ahead and be a photographer full-time! Believe me, I do and I thought why not now since Easter is all about rebirth and this is the time to get out of my cocoon ;-) LOL Well, the level-headed side of me keeps telling me not until student loans are all paid off! After all, I have my Marketing job now, and I really love that too!! Best of both worlds (gotta love Hannah Montana's song).

Maybe next Easter, I'm ready to spread my wings and go on full-time ;-) We will see. For now, I am just loving the ride that God put me on, and I rest my future in God's hands. This Easter, please take time to reflect on your own blessings. It's not just all about the bunny and Easter eggs, but this is also the time to heal any hurt feelings, mend broken dreams and enjoy the company of your family and friends.

I love you all and have a HAPPY EASTER!!

God bless :)

Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Lederman!!

Naomi was a beautiful bride and very gutsy, I may add! She had her hair cut super short just days before the wedding, and she looked like a supermodel on her wedding day :) I had fun capturing all the intimate moments between Naomi and Jon! Their families and guests were really awesome and sweet!

Being a part of Naomi and Jon's special day is one of the many reasons why I love wedding photography, and it also convinces me that Jacksonville is truly a "small city!" Another photog friend of mine, Lyndsay, referred me to Naomi and lo and behold, Jon and my husband know each other from high school, so Naomi had invited Bobby to their wedding. Some of our good friends like Guerrin, Justin and Ritter were at the wedding as well. It was almost like a high school reunion for my husband. Instead of hanging out with the guys, I had put Bobby to work and assist me instead. Watch out world, another husband and wife photographer team is in the making :)

Enjoy the slideshow and the pictures!!
**As many of you know, I'm still not savvy with Photoshop and watermarking my pictures. If anyone else but Naomi and Jon copy off the pictures from my blog, please contact me for copywright permission and be sure to credit the pictures to my name. Thank you sooo much!**

Lastly, I want to personally endorse two awesome vendors that were at Naomi and Jon's wedding, Carlton of McGee Entertainment & Events, Inc and Cassie of Flaire Weddings and Events! They were both terrific in my book :)

Happy St. Patricks Day!

Technically, the bishops in Ireland declared for St. Patty's to be moved from the 17th to the 15th just for this year because no celebration should be done during the Holy Week, which starts today (Palm Sunday). So hopefully, ya'll took advantage of the holiday being on a Saturday!! No green beers for us this year, though we did eat an Irish pub to celebrate (if that counts). Bobby and I usually go to Savannah, GA for the day on St. Patty's day (or weekend), but we did an early start this year. Spontaneous kind of a guy he is, Bobby called me at work two Wednesday mornings ago and asked me to take a day off on Friday so we can head out to Savannah. He knows my weekends are busy with photo sessions, so he had planned a "weekend getaway" during the week. We left Thursday afternoon for Savannah and stayed at a motel that allows dogs--after all, it's a "family vacation." I recently bought a GPS, and we were excited to utilize it :) We found a Mexican restaurant close to the motel and seriously, that GPS is the coolest gadget next to my camera and computer!! It's a Magellan Maestro 3250--go buy one! ;-)

Savannah is a beautiful city, and below are the pictures from our mini-vacation. With our luck, the weather forecast on that day was 100% chance of rain!! To make it worse, it was very windy!! Oh well, at least our dog had fun playing in the puddle. :)

Lindsey & Brian Trashing It!

Sun rising across the St. John's river bank, dews glistening on blades of grass, birds chirping on towering oak trees...it was a perfect day for Lindsey & Brian to trash their wedding attires! With their one-year anniversary coming up, what other best way to remember the special day but to put their wedding dress and suit back on and get dirty?! :)

Bobby and I had a blast doing the photo session with the Boones. The couple was willing to do anything for pictures, and Brian had a lot of fun creative ideas as well. They are very much into sports and wanted to incorporate that into the photo session. Having the session at Jacksonville University also has a special meaning to Lindsey and Brian because that is where they had loved each other at first sight.

I have known Lindsey since JU days, and I was even in the same sorority as she was. Her amazing natural beauty is the perfect pair for Brian's witty smile. They are both very much in love, and I am glad I got to capture that in photos :)

Enjoy the pictures!

Here's something just for fun. Lindsey really wasn't going to cut her dress!! Just the picture of her dress!:

Lastly, always have to thank my wonderful hubby for being the best photo assistant in the world!!
